30 Pontins staff axed

A PONTINS site has sacked 30 workers for alleged “gross misconduct”.

They said no one has told them what they are supposed to have done wrong at the Camber Sands site in Sussex.

One said: “It’s a bit odd, the timing, coming right at the end of the summer season. People are wondering if it’s a crafty way of laying us all off but getting out of having to pay us money.”

The staff say when they asked for specific allegations, some were told they clocked in fraudulently to pocket unearned pay.

All 30 workers deny any misconduct and many have joined forces to seek legal advice. Pontins Camber Sands said it had acted “after an investigation into allegations of fraud and theft”.
