They found Latvia’s capital to be best value of ten cities surveyed, at £504 for a weekend break. And it was one of five cities where prices have fallen since last year.

Runner-up Munich is down 14 per cent to £525, while third-placed Lille dropped 15.4 per cent to £532.

Vienna was down 4 per cent to £721, and Copenhagen down 5.4 per cent to £693. The Danish capital is a fifth cheaper than Stockholm, up 6.6 per cent to around £854.
