cost a lot more than actually employing somebody. But the biggest problem is the lack of continuity.

“For any veteran who comes forward it takes a long, long time to open up to somebody. So if they are being passed from pillar to post as agency nurses come and go they will just clam up.” Mr MacLeod added: “It looks good on paper t hat t hey are sp spending money, but they are not spending it the ri right way.”

The Sunday People is campaigning for better h help for soldiers with mental health problems.

The MoD said yesterday: “We have agreed to spend an extra £2million a year for the next ten years to improve mental health services on top of the £20million per year currently committed.” POLICE were last night hunting a thug who attacked a drinker with a machete in a packed city bar.

The victim suffered lifechanging wounds in Friday night’s horror at Manchester’s Barca bar, once owned by Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall.

The man in his 30s was attacked with the machete, pulled from a rucksack, after asking another drinker who had shouted abuse at a group to calm down.

Police described the attack as “chilling”.
