Killer treat from mum

- By John Kelly and Eugene Henderson

A MUM who gave her son aged 11 a sweet that killed him broke down in court.

Tearful Jaywantee O’Farrell said Aaron, who had a severe nut allergy, spat it out moments later.

But it still triggered an anaphylactic shock and just over an hour later he died.

She said: “If I’d seen any peanuts in the box I’d not have given it him. I’d still have my son here today.

Aaron’s dad James said: “My son came running into the lounge and said ‘Dad, Dad I can’t breathe’.

“The next thing we knew he just collapsed on the floor and everything went into a panic. His eyes were open but he was just staring through me.”

The inquest in Chesterfield, Derbys, heard there may have been contamination from “Bombaymix style” treat in the box. Jaywantee said there had been no warning label.

The cause of Aaron’s death, in September 2014, was given as a peanut allergy leading to anaphylaxis or an anaphylactic shock. CHEEKY fare dodgers’ excuses for not buying a ticket included “my dog ate my train ticket” according to Greater Anglia.
