Parky raps Corrie hell
CHAT show legend Sir Michael Parkinson says Coronation Street’s plots are more like a horror film than a family show.
Singling out Pat Phelan’s recent killing spree, he said. “I never imagined I would recoil from watching Coronation Street.”
The storyline was a world away from the “gentle, funny reminder of life in the north country I so admired in the 1960s”.
He added: “In those days, Ena, Minnie and Martha dominated the snug, Elsie Tanner was everyone’s idea of the good-time girl with a heart of gold.”
Bosses had turned the ITV soap’s creator Tony Warren’s “wonderful idea” into a “gold mine more suited to a horror channel than a family show,” Parky, 82, told The Daily Express.
