Care boss paedophile

- By Adam Gillham

A CHILDREN’S home boss has been jailed for 12 years for sexually assaulting a teenage girl in her care.

Helen May, 49, abused her at the home between 1999 and 2001.

It was found out at the time as the girl detailed the events in her diary which was found by other staff.

But when she was asked about what she wrote, the victim denied it was true. It was not until 2016 she felt able to report the abuse.

May said they had a brief relationship, but that it was after the victim hit 16 and was no longer in her care.

But May, of Ramsgate, Kent, was found guilty at Canterbury Crown Court of seven counts of indecent assault on a child under 16.

Det Con Sue Kingsnorth, of Kent police, said: “The victim... will undoubtedly carry the emotional scars for the rest of her life.

“May... abused her position of trust time and time again, taking advantage of a vulnerable girl for her own sexual gratification.”

May was manager of the Kent children’s home which has since closed. ARCHEOLOGISTS left dismayed when Iron Age trinkets were swiped in a break-in have had them returned by police in Canterbury, Kent.
