DINA TIME WHEN THE BELL GOES

-

JOE CORDINA is relishing the chance to put on a show for another huge crowd as he prepares to carry off the first belt of his career.

The rising lightweight star (left) takes on Andy Townend for the WBA’s international title on the Anthony Joshua-Joseph Parker undercard on March 31.

And while other fighters with just six professional outings behind them might be fazed by the massive attendance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, he insists he will be anything but.

Cordina, 26, said: “It’s a very big night for me as it’s my first title fight and in my home town.

“It’s no different to any other fight I’ve had, it’s just in front of a few more people. That’s how I have to look at it because it can be a bit daunting if you haven’t experienced anything like that before.

“Luckily I have because I’ve been to an Olympics, and fought at Wembley, Bramall Lane and the Principality Stadium, so I will know what to expect.”

Cordina, who has five KOs from his six fights, flew back to the UK yesterday after training in Freddie Roach’s fabled Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.

He added: “Training has been going really well. I’ve had a lot of good work with a load of unbeaten fighters – some champions and some prospects.

“God willing, I get the victory and take the title home.”
