HOLS BLOW IN CATALONIA
PART of Spain’s Catalonia region has gone into a local lockdown in a serious blow to holiday hopes.
It comes after Boris Johnson lifted quarantine restrictions on 74 destinations – including Spain.
There were more than 60 new cases in the El Segria area, which includes the city of Lleida.
Catalonia president Quim Torra said the lockdown was a “difficult decision”, adding: “We are taking a step back to protect ourselves and control the outbreak.”
Meanwhile, Algarve officials were stunned Portugal was not on our quarantine-free travel list.
Joao Fernandes, of the Algarve Tourism Board, said it was “unjust and penalising”. Antonio Pina, of the Algarve Municipalities Association, added: “We haven’t got a single person in intensive care because of coronavirus and less than a dozen people in hospital.”
