RAVE WARS

My terror as I ran for life

- By Phil Cardy and Scott Hesketh

AN inter-city gang war is threatening to erupt amid a spate of fatal shootings and stabbings at illegal lockdown raves.

Tensions are rising between gangsters from Manchester’s notorious Moss Side and self-styled “soldiers” aligned to Birmingham’s feared Burger Bar boys .

Detective believe armed gangs from the West Midlands city are trying to muscle in to the Manchester area to find new markets for their Class A drugs.

Two men were killed at an illegal dance party in a Moss Side car park two weeks ago.

Abayomi Ajose, 36, and Cheriff Tall, 21, were shot at close range.

Reprisals

It is believed Abayomi, a support worker and father of three, stepped in to help Cheriff after he became embroiled in an argument with the gunman.

Even though there were 300 revellers at the party, police are facing a wall of silence with no witnesses willing to give evidence.

PARTYGOER Molly Torkington ran for her life from an illegal rave rocked by a rape and three stabbings.

Costume designer Molly, 24, pictured, was among 2,000 at the bash in Carrington, Manchester.

She said: “My friends said it’s a secret party not an illegal rave. I thought it sounded great – having drinks with people in the middle of nowhere.

“But it was completely out of control. I felt unsafe as soon as I was inside. It got really rowdy. People kept

A gang source said: “There’s been beef between Birmingham and Moss Side gangs for some time now.

“Some of the Birmingham lot are connected falling into the river. Everyone was steaming drunk and fighting.

Terrified Molly, who was separated from pals, decided to escape. She said: “This guy tried to get me to hide his knife. I just wanted to get out. I was trying to run out but there was a tide of people entering. There were police but they couldn’t have shut it down if they tried.”

to the Burger Bar Boys and think they can come and take over turfs.

“They want to run county lines operations near Manchester but they’re stepping on people’s toes.

“It’s wolf season, especially after lockdown, and anyone’s is anyone’s, that’s how it is at the minute. But it won’t be tolerated here. They’re also turning up uninvited to parties and raves in lockdown and knocking out pills and MDMA and it’s causing serious s**t.

“As for the shooting, there’ll be comebacks over that.”

Three weeks ago a 20-year-old man died from a suspected overdose, a woman was raped and three people were stabbed during two illegal quarantine raves on the outskirts of Manchester.

A total of 6,000 revellers flocked to the parties at Daisy Nook Country Park and Carrington, where youths fought in a field with machetes.

The parties fill a vacuum for the drugs trade after festivals and other events were cancelled due to lockdown.

A former cop in Manchester’s antigang unit told the Sunday People: “Lockdown means gangs have not been able to control their own territories as well as they wanted.

Violence

“That’s left room for interlopers to come in and start selling on patches they normally wouldn’t touch.

“And once this lockdown eases more I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a spike in violence because dealers will have to get back on the streets and re-establish their reputation.”

A 32-year-old Birmingham woman arrested after the Moss Side shootings has been bailed pending inquiries.

On Friday night seven police were injured when they were pelted with bricks as they tried to stop an illegal rave in White City, West London.
