surviving on just 90 minutes’ sleep. And the following year, he ran from London to Rome via Brussels and Paris in 30 days.
In 2012, he became the first person to cross America using four different disciplines – cycling, running, climbing and rowing – covering more than 3,250 miles in just 35 days.
He also ran 55 miles across the Dolomite mountains in Italy and 150 miles of the Colorado Rockies. More recently, in 2018, Alex took part in Fiji’s 136-mile Lost Island Ultra before completing the London Marathon a fortnight later.
He also trained for Primal Quest in Canada – one of the toughest adventure races in the world.
Despite suffering broken ribs, a concussion and a bulging disc in his
spine, Alex and his team completed the challenge in four days and five hours. Later this year, he hopes to take part in Racing the Planet’s 155-mile six-stage ultramarathon on Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.
Alex is also hoping to secure sponsorship to become the first person with Parkinson’s to climb Mount Everest for real – a challenge he hopes to have professionally filmed.
But in the meantime, from July 17, he’ll be running a 250-mile ultramarathon in 25 days for Parkinson’s UK in his home town of Wantage, Oxfordshire.
