The People's Friend

From Penpal To Proposal

-

Your article about penpals prompted me to write about my own experience.

A work colleague asked me if I would like to be a penpal to her brother who was in the Royal Air Force and serving in Aden, and was always glad to get letters from home.

I agreed and soon our letters were flying back and forth. When he was demobbed, we met for the first time and the friendship deepened. Eventually we were married on January 11, and 65 years later we recently celebrated our Blue Sapphire Anniversary.

I’d also like to say that my family’s love of your magazine goes back through the centuries, with my mother enjoying it in the 1900s, my grandmother in the late 1800s, and I’m delighted to keep up the tradition in this century.

Mrs E.K., Arbroath.
