After ensuring any valuable data has been transferred to your new phone or tablet – the salesperson where you purchase the phone or tablet should be able to help with this – wiping all data from an Apple iphone or ipad is easy.

Open the Settings app, then tap the General heading and swipe down to reach the bottom menu entry: Reset. Then tap Erase All Contents and Settings.

With a phone or tablet made by Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony or any others that use the Android operating system, there’s a similar sequence to follow.

You can wipe your data by opening the Settings app, then tapping Backup & Reset, then the Factory Data Reset option, and then the Reset Phone or Reset Device option, depending on which you’re offered.
