The Birdie Dance

-

Polly Pullar’s mention of bramlings in a recent issue of the magazine reminded me of the only time I have seen these beautiful birds in Liverpool.

About 30 years ago, on a February morning, there was a very loud noise coming from birds in the garden.

When I looked out of the window there were many bramlings on the lawn, all tweeting away, and gradually they formed two circles moving in opposite directions, as if they were dancing a Paul Jones (the dance where, when the music stops, you have to dance with the person opposite you).

Eventually the birds seemed to pair up and flew off together into the woods.
