Great advice to keep you happy and healthy

-

Q. My wife has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of just fifty-three. How can I best support her?

My advice would be to first ensure that your wife has all the necessary information from her neurologist so that you can support her in building a routine, especially around medication and regular reviews. Knowledge is power and having a greater understanding about Parkinson’s disease and the symptoms will enable you both to put a plan in place that will have a positive benefit – for instance, engaging in regular exercise, following a healthy and balanced diet and taking breaks when necessary.

It may also be a good idea for your wife to join a local support group as it may be useful to receive advice and tips from others in a similar situation.

It is important to point out that your wife can continue to have a fulfilling and active life by ensuring that she has the right support in place. Your wife’s GP or neurologist will be able to assist in putting in place all the necessary therapeutic input.
