Get a map of your local area and draw a one-mile circle around your home, then put a car ban on any journeys within it – for all the family. A one-mile walk not only burns 100 calories, but it gets you active in the fresh air, raises your heart rate, and will start a cascade of positive health benefits.

If you’re in a hurry, hop on your bicycle, and use two wheels instead of four for any trip within a two- or three-mile radius of your home. You’ll soon feel the benefits.
