THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE A BETTER LIFE for cats

The dedicated workers at Cats Protection are at the heart of its vital work.

CATS bring love, warmth and happiness to our lives. But they can face challenges and need people to look out for them. That’s where Cats Protection comes in, the UK’S largest cat welfare charity.

The organisation helps better the lives of cats every single day. In 2022 alone, it found new homes for 30,000 cats and helped 900 cats to stay with their loving owners.

Meanwhile, 2,000 cats were reunited with their families and 43,000 cats were microchipped to help them find their way home.

Teams also handled 143,000 enquiries from the public, providing expert advice on cat care, and 101 families fleeing domestic abuse were helped by the Lifeline cat-fostering service.

The charity is all about championing the nation’s sizeable population of cats, and it’s been protecting, caring for and advocating for the rights of cats for just under a century now.

Throughout this time, the goal has always been to help people better understand the needs of cats.

As John May, Chief Executive of Cats Protection, says: “That’s the really important part of what we do as an organisation, helping people to make sure that cats have their very best lives. We want everyone to see the world through cats’ eyes. And if we can help people to understand what a cat sees and what their priorities are, then I think the world will be a better place.”

But the charity is only able to do this thanks to its expert team working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Across the UK, there are more than 9,000 volunteers who put their love for cats into action by dedicating their time to helping them. These dedicated workers are the heroes of

Cats Protection, helping it deliver its vital services.

As well as rehoming, neutering and microchipping, these services include delivering welfare talks to schools and community groups, answering hundreds of thousands of public queries about cat care, and supporting families fleeing domestic abuse through fostering. There’s also

Cat Guardians, a service which promises to rehome your cat if you pass away.

All of these services are important and, along with support from fellow cat lovers through donations and gifts in Wills, the team of employees and volunteers make it all happen. Over the next few pages we’ll be finding out more about them.
