Is spaghetti a plural term – and if so, what is the singular term for a strand of spaghetti? The singular term for a strand of spaghetti is spaghetto – from the words “cord” or “string”.

Therefore, spaghetti is indeed a plural term.

The name spaghetti is thought to have first been recorded in 1874, and it is usually made out of durum wheat or semolina.

“Britannica” encycloped­ia says Italians eat about

24 kg of dry pasta per person annually, mostly in the form of spaghetti.

From then, Charles booked a show at the Royal Agricultur­al Hall in Islington in 1891 – effectivel­y the first Crufts.

Other notable milestones in the event’s history included the Best in Show Award starting in 1928, the first broadcast on the BBC in 1950, and the name of the event changing from Cruft’s to Crufts in 1974.
