Cadets go for gold

-

YOUNGSTERS proved they have what it takes when they took on the challenges of a tough mountain range.

Members of the Air Cadets 1220 (March) Squadron tackled the three Yorkshire Peaks as part of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award expedition training.

A spokesman said: “Over three days, the squadron travelled to the Yorkshire Dales and camped near Settle.

“They planned three routes but throughout the event the struggled to cope with low cloud, snow on the fell tops and the ever threat of heavy rain.

He said: “Whilst walking up these classic fells the cadets were able to hone their navigation skills, particularly as visibility was quite low a lot of the time. They also got used to the distances and terrain they will need to deal with when completing their Gold Expedition later on this year.”
