Olympic theme for Stil­ton cheese rolling this week­end

THE an­nual Stil­ton cheese rolling fun day will be tak­ing place on Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day, and this year’s event has a spe­cial Olympic theme.

Com­peti­tors are be­ing asked to come in Olympic fancy dress for the races, which will be hosted by Bri­tish Par­a­lympian Matt Skel­hon, who lives in the vil­lage.

The event, which is in its 52nd year, will be­gin with mu­sic, magic and danc­ing from 10.30am in High Street, Stil­ton.

Then the se­ri­ous busi­ness of the cheese rolling race be­gins at noon.

Carol said: “It is light-hearted but ev­ery­body is play­ing to win.

“The big thing to stress is that it is to­tally free and there will be a lot of fun things to do and see.

“As well as the cheese rolling we will have may pole danc­ing, the crown­ing of May king and queen, the Blue Vi­sion twirling team per­form­ing, shows by Magic Dave and danc­ing by Pig Dyke Molly.”
