The world’s loudest cat visits store
ANIMAL lovers in Peterborough were given a unique treat at the weekend when the cat with the loudest purr in the world visited a city book shop.
Smokey, who was awarded the accolade by the Guinness Book of Records last year, and his owner Ruth Adams visited shoppers in Waterstone’s on Saturday.
Eight-year-old Smokey has a purr measuring an incredible 67.7 decibels, which is 14 times louder than the average cat purr level and on a par with noise levels emitted by a lawn mower.
After gaining the record Smokey became a worldwide sensation with Mrs Adams, from Northampton, being inundated with requests for interviews from across the globe.
Mrs Adams was also signing copies of her new book for shoppers about the amazing animal which is called Smokeythe Very Loud Purring Cat.
Mrs Adams said: “Fame hasn’t gone to Smokey’s head, but it has gone to her belly!
“She purrs to get snacks and knows when to turn up the volume.
“I’m proud to be the owner of the cat with the loudest purr in the world, but I never imagined it would generate such interest.”
