The world’s loud­est cat vis­its store

AN­I­MAL lovers in Peter­bor­ough were given a unique treat at the week­end when the cat with the loud­est purr in the world vis­ited a city book shop.

Smokey, who was awarded the ac­co­lade by the Guin­ness Book of Records last year, and his owner Ruth Adams vis­ited shop­pers in Water­stone’s on Satur­day.

Eight-year-old Smokey has a purr mea­sur­ing an in­cred­i­ble 67.7 deci­bels, which is 14 times louder than the av­er­age cat purr level and on a par with noise lev­els emit­ted by a lawn mower.

Af­ter gain­ing the record Smokey be­came a world­wide sen­sa­tion with Mrs Adams, from Northamp­ton, be­ing in­un­dated with re­quests for in­ter­views from across the globe.

Mrs Adams was also sign­ing copies of her new book for shop­pers about the amaz­ing an­i­mal which is called Smokeythe Very Loud Purring Cat.

Mrs Adams said: “Fame hasn’t gone to Smokey’s head, but it has gone to her belly!

“She purrs to get snacks and knows when to turn up the vol­ume.

“I’m proud to be the owner of the cat with the loud­est purr in the world, but I never imag­ined it would gen­er­ate such in­ter­est.”
