The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Front Page -

THE Battle of the Aisne is seen as a turning point in the First World War and the start of trench warfare.

The 1st Northamptonshire Regiment pursued the Germans to the battleground bringing about a stalemate in the war.

Neither side could move against the other nor would they accept defeat.

Both Germans and the allies dug in which was the start of the four-year long slog.

The trenches stretched from Switzerland to the coast in northern France and Belgium.
