Children visit fire station
EXCITED children enjoyed a day at the fire station learning about the life-saving work they do.
Warmington Playgroup visited Oundle Fire Station, in Glapthorn Road, Oundle, where they were given a tour by firefighters Matt Prior and Mick Smith.
Amber Mcnaughton, committee member for the playgroup, said: “It was a fantastic trip out and we’d like to say a big thank you to Matt and Mick from Oundle Fire Station for giving their time to show us around.”
The children were surprised and delighted when they sat down to find the floor was heated to keep the engines ready to go even in the winter months.
Mick then demonstrated all the equipment firefighters carry and how they get dressed before a call out.
The children were particularly entertained by the idea of the boots being inside the trousers before they are worn. But the children’s favourite bit was when they looked round the fire engine and had a go at sitting in the driver’s seat.
The day ended with the youngsters covering their ears as the siren was sounded and the blue lights flashed.
Warmington Playgroup takes children from two to four-year-olds for three hours every weekday morning.
