Golden boy Knight a shining light for COPS
CITY of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS) star Liam Knight warmed up for the European Junior Championships later this month with a dominant display at the British Gas East Region Youth Championships at the Basildon Sports Village.
The talented 17 year-old won four gold medals and two silvers to emerge as top COPS swimmer and help his club to a creditable third place overall behind Hatfield and Ipswich.
The top girl from COPS was Zara Bailey, who won two gold medals, three silvers and a bronze in the 15/16 Year age group.
Other individual medal winners were Elizabeth Winter (three silvers), Jo Longlands (bronze and silver) and Matthew Brigham (bronze).
COPS also did well in the relay events. There were silver medals for the girls 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle teams and the boys 4x200m freestyle and medley squads.
Representing COPS in the relays were Liam Knight, Matthew Brigham, Kyle Ainge, Samuel Holmes, Joshua Aylett, Ben Rippon, Anthony Coombes, Nathan Tweedie, Zara Bailey, Elizabeth Winter, Jo Longlands, Molly Norman, Amelia Butler, Kerry Hunt, Charlotte Harrison and Heather Pfeiffer.
Over the next few weeks there are a number of competitions and at the end of May, the COPS junior squads will be heading for Norwich to compete in the East Region Age Group competition.
