CENTRE-BACK SIGNS TODAY

POSH are expected to complete the free transfer signing of Wrexham centre-back Nathaniel Knight-percival today.

The Evening Telegraph revealed six weeks ago that the 25 year-old had signed a pre-contract agreement to join Posh this summer.

Knight-percival was converted from a winger to a defender following a move from Histon to Wrexham in the summer of 2010.

The England non-league cap has been a virtual ever-present this season in a Blue Square Premier Division campaign that finished in a play-off semi-final defeat at the hands of Luton earlier this week.

Ferguson is hoping to sign several other new players before the team leave for the pre-season training camp in Portugal early in July, but the club remain tight-lipped about their targets.

Midfielders Michael Jacobs (Northampton) and Michael Bostwick (Stevenage) are reportedly of interest to Posh, while Ferguson is a known admirer of midfielder Michael O’connor who was released by Scunthorpe earlier this week.

If Posh are interested in Jacobs, and Director of Football Barry Fry watched him in the final game of last season, they will not land the 20 year-old on the cheap, even though he is out of contract.

Northampton are believed to have been advised of a compensation figure they would receive if the matter was sent to a tribunal (as is the case with players under 24) and no club is believed to have bid anywhere near that figure so far.

Another Ferguson favourite, Paul Coutts, is believed to be unsettled at Preston, while Posh have also been linked with Welling forward Loick Pires.

Posh have yet to sell any of the players placed on the transfer list at the end of last season, although club skipper Grant Mccann is rumoured to be a target of Barnsley, one of his former clubs.

Ferguson did reveal yesterday that contract talks with goalkeeper Paul Jones have reached ‘a stalemate’ so the 25 year-old could follow fellow number one Joe Lewis out of London Road.
