Com­mu­nity urged to en­joy pic­nic

PEO­PLE in the city south area are be­ing urged to come to­gether and en­joy a com­mu­nity pic­nic.

The Green Back­yard en­vi­ron­ment project, in London Road, Flet­ton, is host­ing the event on Sun­day, June 3 from noon.

The pic­nic is be­ing held to cel­e­brate both this year’s Peter­bor­ough Green Fes­ti­val and the Big Ju­bilee Lunch 2012.

A spokes­woman for the Green Back­yard said: “By tak­ing part you’ll be join­ing peo­ple across the whole of the UK who will have lunch to­gether in a sim­ple act of com­mu­nity, friend­ship and fun.

“Last year more than two mil­lion peo­ple took part

“Bring along a dish to share, if pos­si­ble made us­ing lo­cal in­gre­di­ents and add it to the feast for ev­ery­one to en­joy.

“This pic­nic won’t work if peo­ple don’t bring food so please do try to bring some­thing, even if it’s a bag of crisps.”

Par­tic­i­pants can also en­ter the READY STEADY SOUP com­pe­ti­tion.

To take part vis­i­tors need to bring a sam­ple of their best soup recipe for the judges to sam­ple and win a ham­per full of Green Back­yard good­ies.

Marks will be awarded on both flavour and how en­vi­ron­men­tally con­scious your su­per soup is and judg­ing starts at 1pm.

There will be mu­sic all day and the chance to buy some lovely plants for your gar­den or al­lot­ment.
