Community urged to enjoy picnic

-

PEOPLE in the city south area are being urged to come together and enjoy a community picnic.

The Green Backyard environment project, in London Road, Fletton, is hosting the event on Sunday, June 3 from noon.

The picnic is being held to celebrate both this year’s Peterborough Green Festival and the Big Jubilee Lunch 2012.

A spokeswoman for the Green Backyard said: “By taking part you’ll be joining people across the whole of the UK who will have lunch together in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

“Last year more than two million people took part

“Bring along a dish to share, if possible made using local ingredients and add it to the feast for everyone to enjoy.

“This picnic won’t work if people don’t bring food so please do try to bring something, even if it’s a bag of crisps.”

Participants can also enter the READY STEADY SOUP competition.

To take part visitors need to bring a sample of their best soup recipe for the judges to sample and win a hamper full of Green Backyard goodies.

Marks will be awarded on both flavour and how environmentally conscious your super soup is and judging starts at 1pm.

There will be music all day and the chance to buy some lovely plants for your garden or allotment.
