WHAT YOU’RE SAYING...

- SOPHIE WILKINSON Hampton Vale Peterborough

The occasional property allowing dogs is usually in a state of disrepair and not somewhere we’d choose to live.

I AM writing to request that private landlords in the Hampton and Yaxley areas take a slightly more flexible approach to tenants being allowed to keep pets.

My partner and I currently live in Hampton Vale but, as I’d like to have my small dog living with me (who has had to live with my parents for the past nine months) we will have to move out as the landlord will not allow pets.

We have therefore been looking at houses in the Hampton and Yaxley areas, as I need to be near the A1 to commute to work, and made enquiries on many of them, only to be told the landlords would not even consider taking on a tenant with a pet.

My dog doesn’t shed hair, is clean, house-trained and would not be in the house on her own for more than an hour.

She has never chewed or scratched anything and lived with me in the flat I used to own, which was immaculate. However, despite offering extra deposits and/or extra payments, we have been turned down over and over again.

The occasional property allowing dogs is usually in a state of disrepair and not somewhere we’d choose to live.

We are good, reliable tenants and I am just appealing to landlords with properties in good repair to let in either Hampton or Yaxley to consider pets on a case by case basis and not just make a snap judgment.

As a previous landlord myself, I do understand the reservations but please open your mind to considering tenants with one small pet.

Please see http://www.letswithpets.org.uk/about/ for information on letting to tenants with pets.

Please get in touch if you are a landlord or letting agent and think you might be prepared to consider letting to good tenants with a pet.
