Bogus cop warning to residents

A WARNING has been issued after reports of a man posing as a police officer in Bourne.

Lincolnshi­re Police received a report on Sunday of a suspicious man calling at a home in Blackthorn Way at 5pm.

The man was dressed in what resembled a police uniform, including a yellow hi-visibility jacket, a police cap and a vest bearing the word “Police”.

After speaking to him, the homeowner became suspicious and the man fled.

He has been described as of mixed race, between 5ft 2ins and 5ft 4ins and aged in his late 20s to early 30s.

A police spokesman said: “We’d like to take the opportunit­y to remind you that should you get unexpected visitors claiming to be officials, please do not be afraid to ask for ID.

“This includes people claiming to be police officers. A genuine caller will be happy to show ID, and wait outside while you make enquiries.

“If you are concerned about whether a caller is genuine, please call us on 101 and we will investigat­e.”

Anyone with informatio­n about this man should call 101, quoting incident number 257 of Sunday, May 20.
