DAN COULD BE THE MAN
A HIGHLY-RATED Scottish Premier League midfielder has emerged as a possible Posh transfer target.
Playmaker Danny Swanson (25) claims he will be at London Road later this week to meet with Posh officials after his contract expired at Dundee United at the end of last season.
Swanson has been at Tannadice for four years after moving into the top flight from Berwick Rangers. He became a firm fans’ favourite after helping United with the Scottish FA Cup in 2010, but he’s suffered regular injury problems since then.
Swanson says he is determined to move to England to play. Championship rivals Brighton have shown an interest in a player that was called up to a Scotland international squad last year.
Swanson told The Evening Telegraph: “My agent has been busy fixing things up for me and I am planning to swing by Peterborough some time this week.
“I have a few clubs interested in me, mostly in the Championship, but also a couple in the Premier League.
“It’s time for me to make a fresh start and I fancy playing in England now so I will talk to any club that shows an interest and take it from there.
“I’m out of contract now so there’s nothing to stop me coming down. I’d certainly be interested in anything Peterborough have to say and it would probably be interesting playing for a member of the Ferguson family!”
Swanson made 127 appearances for Dundee United, but most of them were as a substitute. He has scored 12 goals.
Swanson was selected in a Scotland squad for the first time for qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Spain in October 2011, but was forced to pull out because of a knee ligament injury.
Sources in Scotland suggest Swanson remains a high-class footballer despite his regular absences because of injury. He made just 16 first-team appearances last season Posh are currently operating a ‘no comment’ policy on transfer speculation.
They were also linked with a move for Manchester United keeper Ben Amos yesterday, a player who made one loan appearance for Posh in 2009
But United Counties League hot-shot Conor Washington has abandoned his attempt to become a Championship player.
Washington (19), who scored 52 goals in 50 games for St Ives last season, ended his three-day trial at London Road after one day.
Former Posh keeper Joe Lewis has not yet signed for Cardiff, but he is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Welsh club by the end of the week.
