Hutchinson is on cloud nine at Sawtry

FORMER Cambridge undergradu­ate Michael Hutchinson came out on top in the National 10-Miletime Trial Championsh­ip organised by Peterborou­gh Cycling Club at Sawtry.

Hutchinson won his ninth title at the distance in 19.40 with Fenland Clarion’s Martin Jones clocking 22.44, the host club’s Nick Hitchens recording 24.44 and Clarion’s Malc Jacklin crossing the line 10 seconds later.

Julia Shaw won her sixth women’s title at the distance in 22.27 with Doncaster’s Ryan Mullen taking the junior event in 21.25.

HITCHENS lined up three days earlier in Peterborou­gh Cycling Club’s Evening 10 at Helpston, finishing second as Dafyd Houston won the scratch race in 24.01.

FENLAND Clarion had five riders in the top 10 in the opening round of the Hereward Inter-club Series on the 11-mile Aunby circuit.

In the King’s Lynn 10-mile event Malcolm Church was the first local rider in 25.03. John Royle made his return to racing after a recent spell on the sidelines with 25.41 followed by Bill Law 27.04, Ralph Stevens 28.28, Phil Lloyd 28.39, Georgina Jennings 28.50, Ann Barrett 28.55, Annette Wyld 29.01 and Keith Kinsey 29.46.
