Card shop set to shut down soon

THE branch of Clin­ton Cards in Queens­gate Shop­ping Cen­tre is due to close down this sum­mer.

Signs for a clear­ance sale have been put up at the store and staff con­firmed yes­ter­day that they have been told the shop will shut.

The firm has more than 750 stores na­tion­wide. It went into ad­min­is­tra­tion ear­lier this month af­ter ac­cu­mu­lat­ing losses of more than £130 mil­lion since 2004. Hun­dreds of their shops na­tion­wide are ex­pected to close in the next two months.

Ad­min­is­tra­tor Zolfo Cooper was un­able to say what would hap­pen to the staff em­ployed at the Queens­gate store.

Peter Sav­ille, joint ad­min­is­tra­tor and part­ner at Zolfo Cooper, said: “We are fully aware of the im­pact these clo­sures will have.

“We would like to thank all em­ploy­ees for their pro­fes­sion­al­ism and ded­i­ca­tion dur­ing this dif­fi­cult time.”

Nei­ther the ad­min­is­tra­tors nor staff from the Clin­ton Cards shops in Bridge Street or Ser­pen­tine Green Shop­ping Cen­tre would con­firm whether their branches will stay open.
