Car and lorry collision causes chaos in rush hour

A CRASH on a major road at peak time caused traffic chaos in Peterborough.

A car and a lorry were involved in the collision at about 7.40am yesterday morning.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident but it forced the closure of the Eye roundabout on Frank Perkins Parkway and the slip road to Oxney Road.

Witnesses reported bumper to bumper traffic on the surrounding streets.

Several cars were reported to have been involved in shunts as the traffic got worse.

Firefighters, paramedics and the police were on the scene from about 7.45am.

Specialist equipment was used to free a man from the car.

The road was blocked for more than an hour while police waited for recovery of the vehicles.

Traffic was returned to running smoothly by about 10am.
