Staff step up to mark for Olympic challenge

-

THE song shouts about 500 miles, but staff at regional events venue Peterborough Arena are aiming to go 4,500 miles better.

Between now and June 15, staff from all areas of the business are stepping up to a challenge to enhance team spirit and get into celebratory mood in the run-up to London 2012.

Over the next few weeks, the 49-strong team will be aiming to walk the equivalent distance in miles from the venue for the 2008 Olympic Games – Beijing – to London.

That’s a whopping 5,000-plus miles – or just over 16 million steps.

And in the true spirit of the games, individuals clocking up the most steps will receive gold, silver and bronze medals.

Peterborough Arena account manager Hollie Ward is a member of the committee who came up with the fun idea to raise the profile of the Staff Sports and Social Club at the East of England Showground venue.

She said: “With 2012 being the year of the Olympics, I just thought this would be a fun challenge.

“The pedometers have already been distributed and the challenge is under way.

“The ‘medals’ will be presented on June 15 at our summer social event.”
