COURT IS LAST OPTION FOR PERSISTENT OFFENDERS.

Cllr John Holdich, above, said there were a number of options to tackle absenteeis­m. He said: “The first action is for the school to write letters, make phone calls and interview parents. “If the attendance is below 85 per cent then the authority can intervene, and talk to parents about their legal and parental responsibi­lities. “Unauthoris­ed absences can result in a fine of £ 60. “The authority carries out sweeps of areas to catch children truanting.”
