SPITTING MAD

The pictures of chewing gum all over the revamped Cathedral Square are truly disgusting. Policing the gum spitters would be expensive and difficult, and no doubt it is a problem in towns and cities across the country. Surely the time has come to add a duty on the sale of packets of chewing gum in the same way as there is on booze on fags. That money could be funnelled back to councils to pay for cleaning up.
