Two large cannabis factories with drugs worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been uncovered by police. The two factories, both located in separate parts of Peterborough, are believed to have been set up by the same gang of people.

The factories were located in Peveril Road, Millfield and Meadenvale, Parnwell, and were filled with plants, lights and fans to keep the drugs growing. They were raided on March 31.

A police spokesman said: “Officers executed two warrants, under the Misuse of Drugs Act, at addresses in Peterborough.

“Warrants were executed at addresses in Peveril Road and Meadenvale.

“Off i c e r s re c overed 1 7 0 cannabis plants worth an estimated £250,000.

“No one has been arrested at this stage and inquiries are ongoing.”

Now detectives are examining the contents of the house in an attempt to trace the culprits and dealers connected to the drugs.

Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson welcomed the raids, and said: “This is illegal activity which funds criminal behaviour and shouldn’t be dismissed.

“The police are r i ght to conduct these raids and put out of business criminals as it often leads to dealing in Class A dr ugs, which wreck to o many lives.”

Cllr Marion Todd, who represents the East ward where the Meadenvale factory was found, said: “A lot of crime is drugs related, with people committing crime to get their next fix. This has a knock on effect on decent citizens, so I welcome this work by police to take the drugs off the streets.”
