The Peterborough Evening Telegraph

Credit where credit is due for the city

-

It has been a glorious few weeks in sport for Peterborough and the surrounding area. On Sunday, Posh did the city and in particular the 18,000 travelling fans, proud with a 3-1 victory to secure the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. The season has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Posh, but with a play-off place still very much on the cards, there could yet be the chance of another Posh party at the home of English football in a few weeks’ time. The sporting world has been in awe of the efforts of Bourne Paralympian Jade Etherington who returned from Sochi with an impressive haul of three silver and one bronze. Quite rightly her hometown has recognised her fantastic achievements and given her the freedom of the town. But it has not just been in sport that we have been able to report on success stories in this weeks’ newspaper. On Page 3 today we reveal the tremendous achievements by pupils from the Voyager Academy, where teams of street dancers have qualified for world and European finals. The Voyager has suffered a barrage of bad news recently with the school being placed in special measures. As ever, this newspaper is keen to promote the good work being done in schools, without shying away from reporting problems where they may occur. Finally, the supporters of the English Defence League made their second visit to the city in recent years. Thankfully, the march and a counter-march passed off without serious incident. That is a credit to the authorities involved including the police, the city council and various community groups. It is also a credit to the people of Peterborough.
