A brave little girl who has been diagnosed with diabetes has raised more than £140 for two worthy causes after organising a non-uniform day at her school. Ella Stanier (7) was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes in January following treatment in Peterborough City Hospital’s Amazon ward.

Ella, a pupil at Coates Primary School, deci ded s he wanted to raise funds for the ward as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

She came up with the idea of holding a non-uniform day at the school, which teachers and staff helped to organise. The event raised just over £140, which will be split between the Amazon Ward and the foundation.

Ella’s mum, Kelly Stanier (32), of Nobles Close, Coates, said she was extremely proud of her daughter.

She said: “Things haven’t been easy for Ella recently, she’s had to get use to having daily insulin injections but she has battled on and I’m so proud of what she’s done.

“While Ella was on the Amazon ward she noticed that some pieces of puzzles she was playing with were missing and she thought that it would be nice to raise funds so they could buy new ones.

“The children’s play team on the ward were also really good with Ella and helped her a lot while she was in hospital, so she wanted to help them as well.

“The JDRF also do great work so hopefully the money that Ella has raised will make a real difference for them.”

Paula Beeby, admin assistant at Coates Primary School who helped to organise the non-uniform day, said: “Ella was very determined to organise something and we thought a non-uniform day would be a great way of getting the whole school to come together.

“The children really enjoyed it. We are very proud of Ella and will continue to support her whiles she is at the school.”
