Inn’s crowning glory

-

Iam a big fan of the Crown Inn at Elton; a great meal last year and occasional beer since have ensured that. The 17th century thatched delight, in Duck Street. has over the past six years undergone an extensive renovation – a labour of love for owner/ chef Marcus Lamb .

And now the latest phase has seen the complete renovation of the restaurant, to create an interesting and highly individual space for customers to enjoy the Crown Inn’s menu offerings.

The new restaurant, says Marcus, combines relaxed style with a chef ’s eye for detail.

He says: “For me, the restaurant is the final piece in the jigsaw, and so it was vital we got it right. Our work over the past years on the bar and snug dining rooms, have provided two really special areas for our customers to enjoy. They have a dash of modernity about them, while exposing the 17th Century character of the inn.

“The restaurant posed a different challenge. It had to give our customers something a little different yet reflect the character of the rest of the inn. We wanted to create a fashionable London restaurant liveliness, yet keep an intimacy to it too, so whether you’re having Sunday lunch with the family, or a romantic evening meal, it’s a beautiful place to enjoy your food.”

The design, which uses a mix of new and reclaimed materials, takes the exposed stonework and wooden floored theme from the historic bar while introducing striking modern touches such as the lowered feature ceiling with specially commissioned central candelabra light and innovative use of striking modern fabrics.

State of the art mood lighting creates the unique lively yet intimate feel Marcus was striving for.

The Crown Inn is celebrating its latest addition with a new menu, where classic favourites like steak and hand cut chips sit with modern classics such as ox cheek with horseradish potato gratin.

If you want to try the new restaurant, Marcus is offering a free bottle of house red or white wine per table with every restaurant booking made by readers up to and including the evening of April 29. The offer applies to restaurant bookings only and is on a first come, first served basis. To take advantage of this readers must book in advance, stating they intend to take advantage of the Peterborough Telegraph reader offer.
