Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony has praised an unforgettable Wembley performance from his club’s supporters. The charismatic chairman has presided over some golden years at London Road and he was understandably overjoyed with victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final.

MacAnthony declared it a great day for the club and reserved special praise for the near-20,000 Posh fans present at the game.

MacAnthony s a i d: “I ’m happy for the club, the players, the manager, the city and for the fans that we were able to win at Wembley.

“And how good were our fans? I will never, ever forget the sight of 20,000 fans cheering our boys on.

“The noise coming from our part of the ground for 90 minutes was unbelievable.

“We really do have some outstanding fans and now we have to reward them by earning another day out at Wembley at the end of May.

“The lads deserve their celebrations, but it’s back to business straight away.

“There are eight League One matc h e s t o go a n d i t would be great to come back to Wembley in May and lift another trophy.

“To b e h o n e s t t h i s wi n would mean little if we didn’t come back and do it all over again at the end of the season!”

MacAnthony was on the Wembley pitch at the end of the match to join in the celebrations. He was cheered to the rafters by the Posh support whenever he was pictured on the big screens around the stadium.

“It’s been a brilliant day for me,” MacAnthony added.

“This is what football is all about for me. It doesn’t get any better than winning trophies at places like this.”
