It was all a blur at first for the Posh ‘keeper

-

Popular Posh goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik was in dreamland after being part of a winning Wembley team in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final. Olejnik admitted during his post-match interviews that he had been walking around in a daze since the end of the 3-1 win over Chesterfield.

The 27 year-old number enjoyed the experience though, particularly the long and loud post-match celebrations in the Posh dressing room.

Olejnik said: “All the lads were very happy as you’d expect. They were laughing and jumping around in the dressing room and there was plenty of banter flying around.

“It was just a great day for everyone, even though for me it took a long time for our achievement to sink in. It was a bit of blur when I was talking to the press afterwards!

“But when it finally dawned on me that we’d won a cup it was a fantastic feeling.

“I thought we played well. The back four was a solid base and they coped with a lot of pressure.

“We got two goals in the first half, but Chesterfield played well and we knew we were in a game all the way through.

“At half-time the gaffer said he expected Chesterfield to come at us and they did.

“Luckily we got the third goal and held out.

“I’m happy with my performance, which is a big boost because I was not happy with how I played during the week (against Preston).

“Winning the trophy i s a g re at e x p e r i e nc e whi c h should stand everyone in good stead.

“If we can come back here in May for the play offs that would be excellent and a big advantage for us as we know we can win here.”

Olejnik, who was left out of the Posh first team for three games in January, was one of the first names on the Wembley teamsheet.

B ut Po s h b o s s D a r r e n Ferguson admits he found it tough to pick the rest of the team, especially the substitutes.

Ferguson was without four cup-tied players in Jack Bald- win, Ben Nugent, Conor Washington and Nicky Ajose.

He opted for Shaun Brisley and Michael Bostwick at centre-back with Nat Knight Percival at left-back.

Experienced midfielder Grant McCann was recalled, while Joe Newell started a match for just the second time since since early January.

Defender Craig Alcock and midfielder Jack Payne were perhaps unfortunate to be left on the substitutes’ bench.

Teenage midfielder Jer- maine Anderson and rookie striker Kyle Vassell were left out of the 16 altogether.

Ferguson explained: “The hardest part for me was telling players they weren’t even going to be substitutes.

“They all took it well though and respected my decision.

“I picked Grant because he plays well in big games. I picked Joe because he had played well in the previous game at Preston, but there were many tough selections.”
