Is Lloyd the man to fire Posh to the play-offs?

Playing 10 minutes at Wembley has already made Lloyd Isgrove’s loan move to Posh from Southampton worthwhile from the player’s point of view. But the 21-year-old winger wants to ac hi eve s o much more before heading back to St Mary’s.

Isgrove came on as a late substitute in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final win over Colchester and delivered an exciting little cameo.

“I loved it,” Isgrove admitted. “I wasn’t told I was on the bench until the morning of the game and I didn’t think I would get on after Joe Newell was sent off as I expected us to shut up shop.

“But I got my chance and it was brilliant. I felt I was going to score when I went on that run through their defence in the last minute.

“I created a good shooting chance, but the goalkeeper made a good save which was a shame for me!

“There was no way I was going to pass though. I swear I didn’t even see Britt Assombalonga in the middle as I thought he’d fallen over as my run started.

“Anyway he scored his goal so he should be happy!

“And now my aim to get into the first team on a regular basis. I’m here until the end of the season including the play-offs.

“I’ve been at Southampton since I was nine years old and I’ve never been on loan anywhere else so this is an exciting little period of my career.

“Southampton don’t normally let players go out on loan as they don’t think it does their players much good in terms of their development, but I was keen to come out and get some first team experience.

“From my point of view it can’t do me any harm.

“The football is different to what I’m used to, but I need to experience first-team matches and I’ve enjoyed my time at the club so far.

“I ’m o ut o f c o nt r a c t at Southampton at the end of this season, but they have said they will discuss a new new deal with me.”

Isgrove has made just one starting appearance and one substi tute appearance for Southampton, both in Capital One Cup ties.

And now he hopes to follow a game at the biggest stadium in England with another one at the biggest ground in League One.

“I played at Molineux in an under 21 match for Southampton,” Isgrove revealed. “It’s a great stadium so I’d love to get another game there.

“I’ve had my head down in training to try and impress the manager.

“Competition for places here is pretty tough though. It’s a good squad.”
