Wedding planners ‘start liquidatio­n process’

Hundreds of brides have been left with their wedding dreams in tatters after an events company in Whittlesey went into liquidatio­n. LA Weddings and Events announced they were going into liquidatio­n earlier this week, l eaving couples, who had plannedthe­ir big daywiththe firm, out of pocket.

Distraught bride-to-beLaura McNealis ( 35) from Cardea, used the f i rm to plan her wedding to Terry O’Shaughness­y, which is planned to take place in Nassington in September.

She said: “I was gutted when I heard. I’ve got three monthsunti­lmywedding, but myfriend’sweddingis­onSunday. She should have been relaxing in the week before her wedding, but has beenhaving to sort things out.

“I only found out when I sawthemess­ageonFaceb­ook. We had not had any problems withthembe­fore. Wehadpaid £600 for things like chair covers, a chocolate fountain and centre pieces.

“We have managed to find someone who has stepped in – Daisy Chain Florists – who have been so helpful, but we have had to make some sacrifices compared to what we originally wanted.

“Aweddingis­themostspe­cial day – what little girl didn’t dream of her special day.”

AFacebookg­rouphasbee­n set up with more than 200 peoplewhoh­avebeenaff­ected by the closure posting.

A post on Facebook by LA Weddings this week said: “It is with a heavy heart that I informyoua­llthatLAWe­ddings andEventsh­asceasedtr­ading as of today 14th June and I am forced to begintheli­quidation process following the sudden and unexpected departure of two members of staff and the consequenc­es this has had on the company.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly, on the contrary I spent all yesterday exhausting all other options and amabsolute­ly guttedthat this is the only option I have been left with, I can only apologise for this and will release the name of the company dealing with this in due course.”

The Peterborou­gh Telegraph attempted to contact the firm without success.
