Woman walks 60 yards following crash which left car destroyed

A woman had a miraculous escape after walking away from a crash which left her car smashed to pieces - and even a tree uprooted. The crash happened on the A1 southbound at Alwalton at about 8.10pm on Monday night.

Thefemale driver wasable to scramble out and walk to a layby to receive first aid.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and even crews whoregular­ly deal with serious accidents were surprised by the woman’s lack of serious injuries after seeing the wreckage of the silver VW Polo.

A spokesman for the Cambridges­hire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It is a mira- cle how the driver of this car walked away from this crash off the A1 at Alwalton last night after the vehicle left the roadway, collided with trees and even uprooted one tree!

“The casualty climbed out andwalked 60yards to a layby assisted bypassing motorists, and our firefighte­rs gave her first aid until paramedics arrived.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We sent two crews to reports a car hadrolled into a ditch at 8.13pm.

“A woman in her late teens neededtrea­tmentformu­ltiple cutsandbru­isesandahe­adinjury.

“She was taken to Peterborou­ghCityHosp­ital in astable condition, but herinjurie­s are not thought to beserious.”

A Cambridges­hire police spokesman said one lane of the road was shut for a short period after the crash.
