Clarion ace Langlands rides well in the National
Cycling
Fenland Clarion veteran Dave Langlands’ recent good form wasputtothetestintheweekend’s National 50-mile Championships.
The event was run over a hilly course from Plymouth, where fast times were never goingtobetheorderoftheday.
Langlands finished in an excellent 23rd place with his time of 1.51.23 to average a shade under 27mph.
PeterboroughCyclingClub hosted the fifth round of the Northants time-trial series on theStiltonbasedN1/15 course.
Leading Clarion rider was Steve Kaye in 35.16 for 11th place.
The winning margin in the Clarion 2-Up Championship was just nine seconds as youngsters Jerry Normanand Tom Stocks gave the favourites Simon Pitchford and AndrewGilbertquiteascarewith their timeof50.13. Thirdplace went to Paul Lilley and Steve Kaye with 50.36.
Fenland Clarion hosted another evening of youth grasstrack racing at the Embankment on Friday when 34 young riders took part.
In the Under 8 age group Clarion’s Harry Tozer held off the challenge of Thorpe Ventures rider Nieve Bryant while in the Under 10s Kings Cliffe flyer William Barraclough pipped Oliver Tilley (Clarion) by just one point.
Three victories bought maximum points for Harry Tilley (Clarion) as he swept to victory in theUnder12section with Adam Lea taking second andDevonnePicaverclaiming third place.
JensenBarraclough(Kings Cliffe) was undefeated in the Under 14 age group to leave the host club’s Cameron Neilsonhavingtosettle for second from his clubmate Luke Armstrong in third place.
