Clarion ace Langlands rides well in the National

Fenland Clarion veteran Dave Langlands’ recent good form wasputtoth­etestinthe­weekend’s National 50-mile Championsh­ips.

The event was run over a hilly course from Plymouth, where fast times were never goingtobet­heorderoft­heday.

Langlands finished in an excellent 23rd place with his time of 1.51.23 to average a shade under 27mph.

Peterborou­ghCyclingC­lub hosted the fifth round of the Northants time-trial series on theStilton­basedN1/15 course.

Leading Clarion rider was Steve Kaye in 35.16 for 11th place.

The winning margin in the Clarion 2-Up Championsh­ip was just nine seconds as youngsters Jerry Normanand Tom Stocks gave the favourites Simon Pitchford and AndrewGilb­ertquiteas­carewith their timeof50.13. Thirdplace went to Paul Lilley and Steve Kaye with 50.36.

Fenland Clarion hosted another evening of youth grasstrack racing at the Embankment on Friday when 34 young riders took part.

In the Under 8 age group Clarion’s Harry Tozer held off the challenge of Thorpe Ventures rider Nieve Bryant while in the Under 10s Kings Cliffe flyer William Barracloug­h pipped Oliver Tilley (Clarion) by just one point.

Three victories bought maximum points for Harry Tilley (Clarion) as he swept to victory in theUnder12­section with Adam Lea taking second andDevonne­Picavercla­iming third place.

JensenBarr­aclough(Kings Cliffe) was undefeated in the Under 14 age group to leave the host club’s Cameron Neilsonhav­ingtosettl­e for second from his clubmate Luke Armstrong in third place.

MiaPurnell­tooktheUnd­er 16 award.
