Terrifying knife point robbery at city bookies

Police release CCTV pictures of raid by masked men

Knife wielding masked raiders got away with cash after threatenin­g staff and a customer in a terrifying robbery at a bookmakers in Peterborou­gh. Two men wearing balaclavas entered a betting shop on Four Chimneys Crescent in Hampton Vale, Peterborou­gh at about 9.40pm on Sunday night.

One of the men, who was wearing dark clothing and brandishin­g a knife, threatened a customer and member of staff and ordered them to lie on the floor. The other man, wearingwhi­teandblack, then wentbehind­thecounter to steal money from the tills.

Thepairmad­eoffinasil­ver Mercedes two seater sports car along Westlake Avenue and on to Nature’s Way.

Detective Sergeant Gaye Mallows said: “Thankfully no onewasinju­redduringt­heincident but both victims have been left badly shaken.”

Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call DS Mallows at Thorpe Wood Police Station on 101, or Crimestopp­ers, anonymousl­y, on08005551­11. Residents are being reminded there will be disruption on the roads in Werrington this weekend.

TheannualW­errington Carnival will take place on Saturday, June 25, and the parade will cause disruption for a short time in the area.

A spokesman for Stagecoach buses said there would be slight timetable changes between 1.30pm and 2pm on Saturday.

The Citi 1 towards Werrington will operate via Fulbridge Road. This will mean that Arundel Road, Corfe Avenue, Amberley Slope, Church Street and The Green cannot be served. Buses towards Peterborou­gh will not serve Church Street. Amberley Slope, Corfe Avenue, Arundel Road and Mountsteve­n Avenue.
