Green light for super surgery At ‘fAllow’ site

Constructi­on of a new super surgery in Peterborou­gh has been given the green light. The medical centre will take over services currently run in Dogsthorpe, Welland, Parnwell, as well as Burghley Road Surgeryand­ChurchWalk­Surgery, close to Lincoln Road.

Patients will have access to six consulting rooms, three minor operation/treatment rooms, a health care assistant/treatment room and a pharmacy.

The healthcare centre will be situated at the John Mans- field Centre in Western Avenue, Dogsthorpe, where the now demolished John Mansfield School used to be based.

Approvalfo­rthecentre­was unanimousl­y given by members of the Peterborou­gh City Council planning committee.

Councillor Peter Hiller, a committee member, said he knew the site well and that it had been “laying fallow.”

He added: “A medical centre of this calibre is welcome. As far as I’m concerned I wouldbecom­pletelysup­portive of this scheme.”

Thepositiv­edecisionc­ame after residents at neighbouri­ng Acacia Avenue removed their objections to the plans.

A petition of 44 signatures had been signed by the resi- dents due to the influx of traffic which would come from people bypassing the traffic calming measures in Welland Road.

However, opposition­tothe developmen­t disappeare­d after it was agreed to close off the route from Acacia Avenue to the site.

The medical centre will also include 31 parking spaces for patients and Cllr Bella Saltmarsh, member for Dogsthorpe, said: “This site has beenleftde­relict for too long.”

NHS England said it needs toagreethe­finalbusin­esscase from the Welland Medical Practicebe­foreitcanp­rogress with the developmen­t.

It will then set a completion date.
