An ‘oarsome’ amount raised
Peterborough Dad, Barry McCann has raised more than £1,700 for charity in memory of his daughter. Barry, 48, from Netherton completed an epic 17km rowing challenge at Peterborough City Rowing LakeonWednesday, lastweek to help raise funds for Sands the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.
Barry’sdaughter, Angelina was stillborn on February 14, 2011 and the support of the stillbirth charity helped him and his wife, Sally feel brave enough to try again.
On June 15, Barry rowed a length of the lake for every child that died on the same day as his daughter, laying a flower at the end of each length.
Fr i e n d s a n d family gathered round the lake to cheer him on, including his daughter, Martha, aged four.
Barry said: “I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of those who have supported this challenge, especially Peterborough City RowingClubwhoallowedme to use the club for the event andRuairiMoore, whorowed alongside me and kept me going.
“I feel incredibly humbled by all the help and want to thank everyone who has supported me in completing this challenge. I feel a great senseofreliefandsatisfaction that, together, wehaveraised so much to help others.”
B a r r y ’s w i f e , S a l l y volunteers for Peterborough and Stamford Sands, alongside fellow volunteer EmilyParsons, theysaid: “We rely on raising funds locally in order to be able to support bereaved parents and the funds raised by Barry’s row will go a long way.”
