Bomb disposal experts are expected to spend a third day searching a Peterborough house after home made explosives were discovered. Police officers were called to the house in Stokesay Court, Longthorpe, on Tuesday morning after report sofa nassau lt-and when they arrived at the property, they found the items.

The bomb disposal team from RAF Wittering arrived on Tuesday afternoon, and returned to the scene the following day, where they worked closely with scenes of crime officers. Along with a search of the house, officers also examined a blue Fiat, which had a smashed rear windscreen, and a garage on the street.

A cordon limiting traffic entering the street was put in place on Wednesday - although some residents and bin collection crews were al- lowed to drive across the line.

A 23- year-old man was arrested by officers on suspicion of assault, and was taken to Thorpe Wood Police Station. After 24 hours in police custody, officers were given more time to question the man at midday on Wednesday, with the extension running until the evening.

A police spokesman said: “The items that were found on Tuesday were concerning and therefore a thorough search of the property is necessary and the EOD (Explosive Ord- nance Disposal) are continuing to help us with that search (due to the nature of what was found).

“The cordon is in place to allow officers/the EOD to carry out their work.

“Nearby houses have not been evacuated.”

The alleged victim of the assault, a woman, is not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

A spokesman for RAF Witte ring was unable to confirm if any controlled explosions had taken place.
