Simon makes it all look so simple

There were some huge weights taken in the weekend Decoy Lakes Open matches.

Leading the way in the Saturday match on the Elm Lake was Whittlesey angler Simon Godfrey. He fished shallow with casters for a fine 232lb 1oz.

Runner-up with 213lb 13oz was Richard Bond, then came Tom Edwards on 179lb 10oz.

Sunday’s match saw Mick Will stop the list with 248lb 3oz from the Oak Pool.

Runner-up with 237lb 5oz was Jimmy Brooks followed by Tom Edwards with 222lb.

WHITTLESEY AA

Horseshoe Lake over at Float Fish Farm Fishery was the venue for the first match of the season for Whittlesey AA club anglers which saw some respectabl­e weights taken.

First with 48lb was Andy Bull. He fished a small feeder before switching to a short pole line with worm and caster.

Runner-up with 47lb was Andy Lawrence, who caught on meat close in, then came Dave White on 24lb.

RAMSEY AS

Ray Myring topped the field in the Ramsey AS match on the Forty Foot on the opening day.

He caught a good tench and a few small rudd from peg six for 6 lb 9 oz. Paul Kilby came second on 6 lb 7 oz, followed by Keith Rayment with 3lb 12½oz.

On Sunday they fished on the Forty Foot again in the Heart Foundation Open and Paul Kilby caught a tench and a couple of perch to win with 4 lb 1½oz. Runner-up with 2lb 3oz was Keith Rayment.

ROKKERY WATERS

Once again top spot in the Rookery Waters Open on the Magpie Pool went to Gavin Butler from peg 31 with 144lb 8oz.

Runner-up was city rod Steve Freeman with 128lb 10oz from peg 35. Martyn Freeman came third with 93lb 6oz.
