Notable mixed double for all-star Camp Retro side
Camp Retro completed a notable double by winning the Peterborough Festival 7s mixed hockey event at Bretton Gate last weekend.
Theall-star team selected local National League playerss of both sexes including former City of Peterborough stars Cameron Heald and Chris Porter.
They actually lost their first game ever when going down 2-1 to Jurassic Beavers in a group match, but came back to comfortably win the semi final and final, in what was a notably strong competition.
Camp Retro saw off Sons of Pitches 4-0 in the semifinal and Ragamuffins 4-2 in the final. Ragamuffins had pipped Jurassic Beavers 2-1 in their semi-final.
Camp Retro also won the prestigious Roger Brummitt Mixed Hockey Trophy earlier this year at the first attempt.
It was the same squad of men’s players, under the name of Sticky Toffee Puddings, who won the men’s competition 24 hours earlier.
Sticky Toffee Puddings won all seven matches on the day easing past Sons of Pitch- es 1-0 in the semi-final and Ragamuffins 2-0 in the final.
Ragamuffins, runners-up in both events were made up of City of Peterborough players.
City’s Sam Anderson was in the Camp Retro side.
The Peterborough 7s was a major part of the Peterborough Town beer festival alongside squash and racket ball competition sand highclass cricket matches.
