Notable mixed double for all-star Camp Retro side

Camp Retro completed a notable double by winning the Peterborou­gh Festival 7s mixed hockey event at Bretton Gate last weekend.

Theall-star team selected local National League playerss of both sexes including former City of Peterborou­gh stars Cameron Heald and Chris Porter.

They actually lost their first game ever when going down 2-1 to Jurassic Beavers in a group match, but came back to comfortabl­y win the semi final and final, in what was a notably strong competitio­n.

Camp Retro saw off Sons of Pitches 4-0 in the semifinal and Ragamuffin­s 4-2 in the final. Ragamuffin­s had pipped Jurassic Beavers 2-1 in their semi-final.

Camp Retro also won the prestigiou­s Roger Brummitt Mixed Hockey Trophy earlier this year at the first attempt.

It was the same squad of men’s players, under the name of Sticky Toffee Puddings, who won the men’s competitio­n 24 hours earlier.

Sticky Toffee Puddings won all seven matches on the day easing past Sons of Pitch- es 1-0 in the semi-final and Ragamuffin­s 2-0 in the final.

Ragamuffin­s, runners-up in both events were made up of City of Peterborou­gh players.

City’s Sam Anderson was in the Camp Retro side.

The Peterborou­gh 7s was a major part of the Peterborou­gh Town beer festival alongside squash and racket ball competitio­n sand highclass cricket matches.
